If low range detection of Fe+2 is what you need, the SenSafe® Ida's Iron Check is the answer. SenSafe® Ida's Iron Check is designed to specifically react with Iron, without interference from other heavy metals that may be present. Say goodbye to dangerous, time-consuming wet-chemical kits that require extensive training and cost. This patented test is a simple dip-and-read test procedure that requires no technical training. Additionally no glass is required to run the test, and since the chemical concentration is extremely low this method is ideal for use in controlled areas. Simply dip one strip into the water for 30 seconds with a back-and-forth motion, remove the strip and shake once to remove excess water, wait 15 seconds for the color to develop, and match with the closest color match to determine your concentration of Iron.  For visual detection of Total Iron (Fe+2/Fe+3) see WaterWorks™ Total Iron Pillows.

Why test for Iron?

This test detects dissolved Iron (Fe+2). For best results, run test immediately after collecting a fresh water sample, since Iron rapidly converts to Fe+3 in the presence of air (oxygen). Iron is naturally occurring from rocks but can also arise from corrosion of plumbing materials. Iron in water above 0.3ppm can have an unpleasant taste, be colored, and can cause staining of laundry, sinks, and fixtures. If rust colored stains are seen in toilet tanks or sinks, iron may be present in the water.
