Patented technology allows for ferrous Iron (Fe+2) detection sensitivity of 0.02 ppm (mg/L) on the SenSafe® Iron Check test strip. This test promises to be an attractive alternative to wet chemical iron tests because there are no hazardous chemicals to mix and a MSDS is not required. Quick results are obtained in 30-seconds and best of all, the Iron Check Test Strips are safe and easy to use for fast accurate results within the ranges of 0.02 to 5 ppm (mg/L); which permits the measurement of typical iron levels found in well & tap water. For visual detection of Total Iron (Fe+2/Fe+3) see WaterWorks™ Total Iron Pillows.

Why test for Iron?

This test detects dissolved Iron (Fe+2). For best results, run test immediately after collecting a fresh water sample, since Iron rapidly converts to Fe+3 in the presence of air (oxygen). Iron is naturally occurring from rocks but can also arise from corrosion of plumbing materials. Iron in water above 0.3ppm can have an unpleasant taste, be colored, and can cause staining of laundry, sinks, and fixtures. If rust colored stains are seen in toilet tanks or sinks, iron may be present in the water.
